Boss Mick McCarthy was pleased to see the Blues win their pre-season game at Southend 2-1, particularly as the match was played on a difficult Roots Hall surface, and was delighted to see talismanic frontman David McGoldrick return to match action.

Anthony Wordsworth netted a final minute winner as the Blues beat Southend 2-1 at Roots Hall in their penultimate pre-season friendly. Trialist Balint Bajner had put Town ahead just before the hour mark with Myles Weston equalising for the home side. Late on, David McGoldrick made his long-awaited return from injury.
Veseli Joins Port Vale On Loan Tue 29th Jul 2014 12:04
Defender or midfielder Freddie Veseli has joined League One Port Vale on a half-season loan, subject to the paperwork going through. The 21-year-old former Swiss U21 international looked well down the pecking order at Portman Road and recently spent time on trial at FC Luzern.

Boss Mick McCarthy has decisions to make at both ends of the field ahead of Town’s opening Championship game at home to Fulham a week on Saturday. Strikers Paul Taylor and Jack Marriott will be amongst those to come into the reckoning to partner Daryl Murphy up front, with David McGoldrick unlikely to start, while McCarthy is delighted to have plenty of options at the back.

Boss Mick McCarthy felt his side deserved their 2-0 victory over Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium. Alex Henshall and Luke Hyam netted a goal in either half as the Blues beat the League One side comfortably.

A goal in either half from Alex Henshall and Luke Hyam saw the Blues to a comfortable friendly victory over Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium. Henshall opened the scoring in the second minute with Hyam adding the second just after the hour.
